Silver Key Needs Help to “Stock the Pantry”!

June 4, 2012, Colorado Springs, CO – For over forty years, Silver Key Senior Services has been providing much needed nutrition assistance to seniors in crisis in the greater Colorado Springs area. The need is even greater today than it was in the early 1970s with more seniors needing help, and fewer resources to go around.  While Silver Key works hard to meet the growing demand, we cannot help without the support of our community.  In the past few months, our pantry shelves have been depleted and last week, for the first time, we had to refer seniors to other agencies when they asked for emergency food assistance.  This month, we are asking our community to help us “Stock the Pantry”!

Suggested Food Items Needed:

Canned Tomato Products          Peanut Butter

Jelly                                           Rice

Canned Meats                           Canned Fruits

Cereal                                       Dried Beans {any}

Crackers {any}                           *Any Gluten Free Items

*Low or No salt Items                *Sugar Free Items

*Organic Items

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Silver Key office at 2250 Bott Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.  Your donation will help us provide much needed emergency food to seniors.

Silver Key Nutrition Programs consist of the Federal Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), the Pantry program for clients meeting financial requirements but also having dietary restrictions, and the Emergency Pantry, a one-time assistance for seniors not currently enrolled in a program and having a dire need.

A BIG thank you to our Colorado Springs community!  Through your generosity, we had almost 18,000 pounds of food donated in the month of June!  We are so grateful to the hundreds of people who heard about the need and met the challenge.  Thanks!
