Money Coach Corner - When All Else Fails

When all else fails, write the President.

We all are frustrated and angered by the incompetence and greed in my industry, the financial industry. Today I took my discontent to the highest level - I sent a letter to the President. The subject is "short sales" - when a homeowner trying to sell owes more on the property than the sales price. The problem is that it takes forever-the banks and mortgage companies don't have a common sense… Continue

A.L.L. TKD helps Noah pay it forward

Written by Melissa Devolve

"I am truly sorry, ma'am. There is nothing more we can do for your son..." To this day, just thinking about those words makes me shudder.

My first child, Noah, was born on October, 30, 2000 with a serious heart defect that had not been detected before birth. He was transported to Denver Children's Hospital where he had open-heart surgery and was given a 10-20% chance of survival. We were warned of problems to… Continue

In an earlier Hub article named the 'Slums of Colorado Springs' - I pointed out how the shopping reputation of downtown Colorado Springs had been dragged down by street people, drunks, and drifters. Long time retail stores there had pulled out and moved to Old Colorado City, where well dressed ladies felt more comfortable shopping. Historical… Continue

Aftermath: Transgender Youth Moves Mountains

Blake Williams, a Colorado Springs youth, experienced discrimination in his high school just for being who he was. From the students to the teachers and the administrators, everyone treated Blake differently because he was transgender.

Living in a homeless shelter, and not feeling welcomed at school, he dropped out. But then, with the support of friends, he organized a protest to send a clear message to the school and the district about the state's laws to protect lesbian, gay,… Continue

Fawns are Probably Fine (Without Your Help!)

Our phones are ringing off the hook with concerned people finding deer that they think need help. But usually, the help they need is in the form of no interference from people or pets. A nice lady called from Black Forest the other day. She and her grandchildren were pulling up into the driveway when one of the kids noticed a tiny spotted fawn curled up near some bushes in the yard. The lady did exactly the right thing-she brought the kids into… Continue
