A Dad Who Left an Impact

Dad was a self-made man. What does that mean exactly? I believe it means that he managed to get through life using his common sense, exceptional creativity and wit regardless of any education beyond high school. He was self-taught in several skills that included photography, commercial art and painting.

He was also a workaholic. His day was spent at the office. Then he came home and had a libation to relax, out to his work area in our garage until called for supper, then back out to… Continue

Cottonwood's Grand Opening a Huge Success!

Cottonwood's Center for the Arts had an OVERWHELMING turnout for their Grand Opening in April at their new location, 427 E. Colorado Ave. Expecting 500 attendees, they quickly ran out of as many maps within the FIRST HOUR! Estimates put the number at 3,000 people over the two-day event as people lined up outside the building and around the corner to get in.

That many people could be a good thing, though, as many were forced to visit Cottonwood in… Continue

Fort Carson had, by 1971 made America work in Army, so that the Army could work. It had started to lay down the basis for attracting, and retaining, a Volunteer Army. It was so successful that even European Defense Ministers visited Fort Carson. They faced many of the same '60's' problems in their defense forces.

But the Pentagon needed the… Continue

Come See a Show in 4-D

Written by Su Crocker

Twenty years ago I was in the process of raising a son who could be classified as "strong-willed." That was the terminology used then for a child who seemed to have a lack of discipline. Unbeknownst to me, he was simply having trouble with focusing his attention and had the additional character trait of being a prankster!

In elementary school, he had teachers who were caring and interested in him and his ability… Continue

Fort Carson Drugs, Race, and Tracked Vehicles

Find more photos like this on FRESH INK

So I arrived at Fort Carson with my family after having been in combat, away from them, for over a year. Since I had never served in a Mechanized Infantry division before, - most of them were only in Europe - General Gleszer correctly reasoned that I wouldn't be a very effective Division level G-3 Plans and Training officer unless I got close and… Continue
