Winners of a special and separate essay contest were announced by the Academy Optimist Club on May 20, 2014:  First place Riley Sanders; Second, Antoña Duran; and Third, Alexandra Artusa.  The students were presented with medallions and certificates of participation at a breakfast meeting attended by their English Teacher Bruce Phillips and their families. Local Optimist Club Achieves Program of the Quarter Award from CO/WY District

The CO/WY District of Optimist International recognized the Academy Optimist Club’s BUG (Bringing Up Grades) Program with the Program of the Quarter Award.  Receiving the award on behalf of the club was Liz Rand, team coordinator. A ladyBUG named Dot (Frances Tencza) and an AOC team (Rand, Carol and Larry Brown, David Bogosian) have been visiting Remington Elementary in Falcon District 49 once a month over the past three years.
