Event Description

Unconventional Women of the West

Overcoming personal hardships, seven Legendary Ladies became part of the lore of the West - Captain Jack-Lady Miner; Maud Nelson-Baseball Player; Mary Chase-Pulitzer Prize Winner; Augusta Tabor-Business Woman; Rae Wilson-Patriotic Benefactor, Mary RipponProfessor and Lillie Coit-Patroness of Firemen. These women will be portrayed by a group called The Legendary Ladies.

The Legendary Ladies, Inc. is a non-profit organization, who for the past 25 years, have enlightened and enriched audiences. These Ladies tell the stories of Unconventional Women who have made significant contributions to the history of the West. The Legendary Ladies, Inc. with 19 members portraying over 35 characters, showcase the lives of historical women who impacted the West. Members research the life stories of unique women—from those who were born in the West, to immigrants, and visitors—write their scripts, create their authentic costumes, and then portray, in first-person living history, their spirited stories in an entertaining and educational format. This Chautauqua has been made possible by the generous donation of PPHS member, D. Burton.

The Pikes Peak Historical Society invites you to learn more about these Legendary Ladies at their monthly Chautauqua (free program) on Sunday, May 21st, 2:00pm at the Lake George Charter School.  The School is located just 3-4 minutes from Florissant, on the south side of Highway 24 just 2/10 mile west of the Ferrall Propane lot. This program is presented as a public service of the Pikes Peak Historical Society. Admission is free and refreshments are served.  No reservation is required but arrive early, seating is limited. For more information call 719-748-8259 or 719-748-3861
